.. and incidentally it is worthy of great admiration that some young people under instruction in the Marine Guards, not yet out of
apprenticeship for their career and still to complete their education
in the Cadiz school, should leave it and mix independently
with the most famous Academicians of France
in one of the most delicate and important scientific enterprises
that could ever have caught the attention of great minds;
and, above all, that they should distinguish themselves in this highly honourable post with such dedication,
zeal and profound knowledge as has been proved in their respective writings.
Perhaps this is a unique example of the species, or at least
there will be very few men in the world who can so relevant a qualification
and in that Body of the Mother Country which has the fortune of counting
such sons.
It is a pity that there they may not have achieved all the respect and appreciation they deserved;
because quite rightly it can be said, even if since the foundation of the Company of Marine Guards no other result had been obtained than having produced a don Jorge Juan and a don Antonio de Ulloa, this alone would be enough to prove the usefulness of the establishment giving it perpetual honour and eternal fame.
